Two new members: Richard Clear (Florida) and Jim Burchfield (Michigan) are students of Wen Mei Yu, while Jody Mansfield (Michigan) is a student of Burchfield. Mansfield and Clear demonstrated the Wu style short form with senior member Wen Mei Yu, while Burchfield demonstrated single and double push hands, as well as moving steps methods of the traditional Wu school with member Gerald A. Sharp. Present for the induction were: grandmasters Wu Ying Hua (association president) and Ma Yeuh Liang (association vice president).
Senior third-, forth-, and fifth-generation stylists of the association are mostly located in Shanghai with members worldwide. The Chian Chuan Association publishes a newsletter in Chinese, supervises Wu style training sessons, and holds monthly public demonstrations in Shanghai. The end of the year bulletin for 1994 published information about Ma Yeuh Liang’s first American student, who studied a short time with Ma in 1941, and began offering classes in the U.S. in 1946. The association newsletters usually publish accounts of Wu style’s developments contemporarily and historically, as well as useful information on tai chi practice.
